Supporting a Loved One in Crisis

Updated: Dec 16, 2024

One of the most painful and powerless feelings is witnessing the suffering and struggles of someone we love.

Whether it is due to substance use, a major life event, or mental health issues, we often find ourselves struggling with how to help our loved one through their pain. What's more, sometimes our family member is not able to receive our support, and may not be in a place of readiness to change. Just like any flight attendant will tell you, in times of crisis, it is critical for you to first put on your own oxygen mask. Only then can you stay alert enough to affix the oxygen mask to the person depending on you.

At Arena, we will work together to help guide you towards a healthier path forward. Building on your strengths as a parent, partner, or sibling, we will aim to resolve the many internal conflicts you may be experiencing, and we will help to develop a framework for offering support and setting healthy boundaries, without sacrificing your needs.
